Hello, my name is Alex. I opened the Soul Space studio doors to the local yoga community in June 2021.
One of my heart felt aims as a yoga guide is to create a safe space for students to explore, ask questions and have a good time. I use ‘yoga’ as a framework; yes we explore philosophy, breath work, movement, mantra and mudra. I honestly believe they are only guidelines and that these should all feel uncomplicated and accessible to everyone. ‘Yoga’ is what you need it to be, for you, in that moment. As long as you feel safe, no pain, you are learning and having fun with a smile in your heart, then that’s a pretty good place to be! If everyone practiced yoga I believe the world would be a better place. I am trained in Hatha yoga, I am drawn to explore and specialise in Menopause Awareness yoga and movement for empowerment, yoga Nidra to support wellbeing, chakra yoga for inner guidance and nature based yoga to nurture the soul. What are the health benefits of yoga? Many scientific trials of varying quality have been published on yoga. While there's scope for more rigorous studies on its health benefits, most studies suggest yoga is a safe and effective way to increase physical activity, especially strength, flexibility and balance. There's some evidence that regular yoga practice is beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, aches and pains – including lower back pain – depression and stress. Being in nature, or even viewing scenes of nature, reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant feelings. Exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally, it contributes to your physical wellbeing, reducing blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension, and the production of stress hormones. I worked in a florists for 2 years, where my passion for all things green bloomed, but the downside of environmental aspects made me realise there has to be a better way to enjoy nature at home whilst being kind to the environment. I have been working with a range of private and public sector clients and I am actively involved in a local charity promoting kindness to each other, yourself and the environment along with intergenerational connection.
